Despite its name, Fiano Minutolo is not related to the famous and serious Fiano variety from the Campania region. Genetically, Minutolo is much closer to the Muscat (Moscato) family, which is why these wines always feature an explosive and highly expressive floral and honey scent. The best examples of this variety are fermented in steel tanks to surprise the taster with a combination of pure fruit and crisp acidity without any oak influence.
Due to its intense aroma and freshness, Minutolo wine demands expressive gastronomy. It pairs perfectly with fried seafood (shrimp, calamari), Asian wok dishes, Thai chicken curry, and intensely flavored cheeses. It is a wine that can become a wonderful highlight of a festive dinner.
The word "Minutolo" is derived from Italian and means "tiny" or "small." The grape received this name because of its extremely small berries, which grow in dense clusters. For a long time, it was confused with the Fiano variety, but now it is officially known simply as Minutolo.
Although smelling a glass of this wine might give the impression that the drink will be very sweet due to the muscat and tropical fruit notes, the vast majority of Minutolo wines are actually produced completely dry. This creates a wonderful contrast between a sweet, perfumed aroma and a refreshing, dry, and crisp taste on the palate.
