Red dry
Every wine grows from the soil and El Jardín de las Iguales is truly one of a kind. Bodegas Frontonio was given the privilege to acquire such a precious piece of land. These vines are so sensitive that they get to connect with their caretaker. We have so decided to guide our actions based on respect and comprehension. At the end of the day, people come and go, but the land remains. Aged 14 months in 456 barrels brought from Les Hospices de Beaune. The wine surprises with its expressive and strong spicy floral aroma, which gives way to citrus scent. Elegant, with great balance and a long freshly strong aftertaste.
Serve at 16-18 °C with grilled pork dishes, wild poultry: pheasant, partridge meat, veal sausages; tuna tartare, Iberico hams, rabbit dishes.
The grapes for the 2020 El Jardín de las Iguales Garnacha were picked on September 7 and fermented with 100% foot-trodden clusters and indigenous yeasts in concrete with a very long maceration of three months. It matured in neutral 465-liter oak barrels for 13 months. It has 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.44 and close to six grams of tartaric acid per liter, balanced parameters that are reflected in a balanced mouthfeel. This is more primary than the 2021, and it has more fruit and is juicier but is still austere and vertical (it's all relative, and tasting next to the 2021 was not easy...). 851 bottles were filled in April 2022.
"Bodegas Frontonio" is a project by Master of Wine (MW) Fernando Morra, born from the desire to reveal the uniqueness of Aragon region wines. "Bodegas Frontonio" is located in the Aragon region, which encompasses appellations such as Valdejalon, Campo de Borja, Calatayud, and Somontano. Many people have barely heard of them, but it is believed that the 'Garnacha' variety (known as 'Grenache' in France) originated from these areas. Therefore, it is not surprising that in these appellations we can find many old 'Garnacha' vines. Fernando Morra initiated the creation of the "Mondo Garnacha" winemakers' group, whose goal is to preserve and nurture old vines, expressing the best qualities of 'Garnacha' wines. In the Valdejalon IGP appellation, the oldest surviving vines were planted in the 1890s! Luis Gutierrez (Robert Parker's Wine Advocate reviewer), reviewing 'Garnacha' wines from Aragon, Navarra, and several other areas around the "Frontonio" winery, wrote simply and unequivocally: "This time, Frontonio wines are the ones that show the most significant progress compared to previous vintages. Each year the wine gets better."
Wine Style
"Bodegas Frontonio" wine is expressive, with exceptional balance, perfectly revealing the terroir of the vineyards.
Prestigious Vineyards
The winery owns prestigious vineyards, acquired since the 1890s. Among them stand out:
They are complemented by lesser-known but characteristic vineyards of the Aragon region.
Aging and Consumption Period
"Bodegas Frontonio" wines are aged to highlight the best qualities of the vineyards. The wines are aged in both oak barrels and other vessels, depending on the wine style. For this reason, "Bodegas Frontonio" wines are flexible – they can be enjoyed both young and aged.
