Description

“Geri metai No. 69 – Rowanberry Wine GRACILIS 2023” is an expressive dry red wine made from rowanberries grown in Lithuania, showcasing the unique character of local fruit and careful craftsmanship.

The aroma is dominated by ripe berries – raspberries, sour cherries, sweet cherries and blackberries – complemented by notes of acacia, black pepper and herbal nuances such as rosemary and basil.

On the palate, the wine is dry, firm yet elegant in character. It shows fresh acidity, medium-intensity tannins, and a long, clean finish that leaves a lingering impression of berries and gentle spice.

This wine is made from the ‘Gracilis’ variety of rowanberries, known for their exceptionally rich composition. They contain high levels of provitamin A, vitamin C, organic acids, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, as well as essential oils, trace elements and tannins, all of which contribute to the wine’s structure and depth.

This is a limited-edition Lithuanian wine, revealing the remarkable potential of local fruit and careful, small-scale winemaking. A wine for those who appreciate authenticity, natural expression, and distinctive character.

Serving recommendations

Serve slightly chilled, at a temperature of 14-15 degrees, in a wide red wine glass. It goes well with duck and vegetable stews.

About brand

“Geri metai” – unveiling the hidden potential of rowan berries

“Geri metai” is a family-owned estate that has been cultivating rowan orchards for more than five years and, in 2022, introduced its first rowan berry wines to the market.
“Our goal is to reveal the potential of the rowan berry while preserving its natural character and expression of terroir,” says Giedrius Kaukas, the owner of the estate.

Philosophy of minimal intervention

The wines are never heated, filtered, or artificially clarified. Every stage – from harvest to aging – is carried out by hand, ensuring that only the purest and most authentic expression of the fruit reaches the bottle.

14 rowan varieties – a wide palette of colors and flavors

The estate is home to 14 different rowan berry varieties, whose fruits vary in color (from bright orange to almost black), taste, and aroma. As a result, the “Geri metai” portfolio includes white, rosé, orange, amber, red, and purple rowan wines – each with a distinctive character.

Tasting notes

Rowan wines are true, wine-like expressions: alongside the unique character of rowan berries, one can also detect notes of citrus, dried fruit, wild berries, and gentle spice. On the palate, the wines range from refreshing acidity and a light body to richer, more expressive tones, depending on the style.

Natural purity

The wines are made exclusively from rowan berries – without the addition of any other fruits or berries. They may contain only naturally occurring sulfites.
