Description

"Botis – a word with attention and intention, a very rarely used old Lithuanian term. This is the name we chose for our new wine, a wine we kept secret for more than two years, largely because we ourselves did not know what the outcome would be. It is the first wine to which we decided to give an actual name — calling it simply a fortified liqueur wine felt far too modest for a product that, in our view, stands shoulder to shoulder with its distinguished, globally recognised and beloved relative: Port wine, which many of you certainly know and have tasted. A few years ago, while visiting Portugal (we were visiting our cork supplier), we had our first opportunity to taste that remarkable wine.

We asked ourselves: why shouldn’t we try to create something similar? We have experience making dessert wines (mead, apple ice wine), and Lithuania certainly has its share of berries.

After returning home and waiting for autumn, we began experimenting — as usual, we started with blueberries as the base, sweetened with honey and apples, and added a few other berries for additional nuance.

Wines of this style must contain 18–22% alcohol, so we fortified ours with our own fruit distillate (taking into account the ‘angel’s share’), filled the oak barrels, and left the adventure to rest for three years. To be frank, we did not expect great results, which is why we told no one about our trials.

Time passes quickly. At the first tasting, the impression was surprising — there was still a hint of imbalance, of course, but it became clear that the wine was on the right path.

And so, we invite you to discover our new creation — the fortified liqueur wine Botis, which we confidently release into the world, hoping it will find its Lithuanian wine lovers and admirers.”

Botis — fortified red fruit-and-berry liqueur wine, aged for three years in oak barrels.

The wine is concentrated in flavour, with sweet wild-berry aromas complemented by notes of elderflower and honey. Subtle tones of vanilla and caramelised nuts interlace with gentle tannins and refreshing acidity.

The finish is balanced, pleasant, and long-lasting.

 

Serving recommendations

Serve at 15–17 °C as an aperitif; it also pairs beautifully with coffee, chocolate desserts, and aged cheeses.
