Planeta Controdanza Rosso 2022 is a rich yet elegant organic red wine from the Noto DOC appellation in southeastern Sicily. It is made from 85% local Nero d’Avola and 15% Merlot grapes. The name Controdanza is associated with a traditional village dance, in which opposites intertwine - similarly, this wine combines the characteristic, fresh Nero d’Avola with the rounder, fruitier Merlot.
The aroma reveals ripe plums, mulberries, complemented by notes of bay leaves, Mediterranean herbs, incense, spices, balsamic and light tar. The oak aromas remain subtle and do not overshadow the fruitiness. Lively acidity, with noticeable but well-balanced tannins and a warm, spicy and balsamic aftertaste.
The grapes are grown at an altitude of 40-70 m, on calcareous marl soil. The wine is aged for 12 months in fourth and fifth-use French Allier oak barrels.
Serve at 16–18 °C. Goes well with grilled meats, aromatic meat stews, cured meats, aged cheeses and sweet and sour dishes. The producer even recommends this wine with artichoke dishes.
