Planeta Plumbago Rosso Menfi DOC 2022 is a red wine from Sicily, named after the beautiful wild Plumbago flower that grows in the woods surrounding the winery. This wine is made exclusively from ‘Nero d’Avola’ grapes – Sicily's primary red grape variety, renowned for its rich character and a touch of southern warmth.
The deep violet-colored wine reveals notes of ripe plums, blackberries, cocoa, pepper, and cloves. On the palate, it has soft tannins and a medium acidity, which is complemented by a complex blend of black and red berries with chocolate notes. The wine boasts a long, spicy finish, making it enjoyable for an extended period.
The grapes are grown in the Ulmo vineyard, characterized by an abundance of small pebbles and calcareous soil. This terroir helps to produce a fruity and concentrated ‘Nero d’Avola’ flavor.
The grape must is fermented in stainless steel tanks, and maceration lasts for 14 days at 25 °C, aiming to extract maximum aroma and color intensity. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred to oak barrels, where it is aged for 10 months.
Serve at 16 - 18 °C with grilled pork, tuna steak, grilled sausages or hard mature cheeses.
