Red dry
The grapes for this wine are sourced exclusively from the Sea Eagle vineyard, located in the South Australia region, 50km from the Adelaide peninsula.
This 100% Shiraz is aged for 18 months in 300-litre oak barrels, 50% of which are new. 80-90% of the production uses French oak; the remainder is American.
The wine reveals aromas of black berries, mint, and spices: cloves, black pepper, vanilla, and coffee. On the palate, the wine is dense, round, and firm, polished by oak and abundant in fine, ripe tannins. An exceptionally long finish.
Ageing potential: until 2045.
Serve at 18–20 °C with grilled lamb or beef steaks, kangaroo meat or hard aged cheeses.
The 2018 Finniss River Sea Eagle Vineyard Shiraz was matured for 18 months in French oak. This is very good. It speaks clearly of the 2018 season—ripe, vital and red—and although the ripeness of the fruit through the finish does at some points teeter on the brink of bagging, it never once topples. Mulberries, pomegranates and raspberries are the order of the day, hemmed in as they are by exotic spice and bright acidity. Very good.
94 Deep savory nose with stacks of ripe red and some blue fruits. Delicate spice, too. Impressive tannic power that’s wrapped around plenty of ripeness, but this stays clearly on the dry side of taste spectrum. Long, savory and spicy finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
Viena iš Berto Salomono svajonių buvo greta baltųjų vynų, gaminamų šeimos vyninėje „Salomon Undhof“ Austrijos regione Kremstalyje, turėti ir gerą raudonųjų vynų pasirinkimą. Ši svajonė išsipildė tolimojoje Australijoje, kurią Bertas įsimylėjo dar septintajame dešimtmetyje, kuomet vyno importo kompanijoje „Schlumberger“ priklausė direktorių tarybai. Jo dėka į Austriją pirmą kartą buvo importuotas australietiškas vynas. Beje, tuo metu B. Salomonas buvo vienas Austrijos vyno instituto direktorių. Didžiąją svajonę jis įgyvendino 1995-aisiais, įsigijęs vyninę „Salomon Estate“ Finniss River regione, maždaug 50 kilometrų nuo Adelaidės. Įdomiausia tai, kad 1866 metais Johannas Nepomukas Hinteröckeris , Salomono šeimos ainis, emigravo iš Austrijos Vachau regiono į Australiją. Po keturių metų darbo „Seven Hills“ vyninėje (Kler slėnyje) Adelaidės priemiestyje Norwoode jis įsteigė Šv.Ignaco koledžą. Kas galėjo žinoti, kad daugiau nei po šimto metų Salomono palikuonys sugrįš į Australiją ir vėl augins vynuoges.
