Description

Stunning, yet restrained and pure, mineral yet serious and persistent. The expression of white pepper, nutmeg and blueberries is subtle but bold. The wine is deep, luxurious, but not overly fleshy. Dolio is simply a unique reflection of the Ribeira Sacra heritage. The wine is sourced from the finest vineyards, from the oldest vines on the steepest slopes. The wine is the result of a unique combination of indigenous grape varieties and traditional winemaking methods, honouring the vinification traditions passed down from generation to generation. A blend of native varieties such as 'Mencía', 'Brancellao', 'Sousón', 'Caíño' and 'Garnacha Tintorera' reflects the diversity and richness of this territory. Each variety contributes to the overall balance of the wine, offering concentrated flavours and remarkable aromatic depth. All clusters are destemmed and fermented with native yeasts, ensuring an authentic expression of terroir. Ageing in French oak barrels for 24 months gives the wine its unique structure and elegance.

James Suckling

A mind-blowing Ribeira Sacra red with pure fruit. Grapefruit, flowers, iron and chalk. Mineral, with subtle white pepper and blueberries. Really expressive, yet not sassy. Restrained and pure with plenty of fruit, but there is nothing too fleshy or sumptuous about the fruit. Complex, nuanced and full of nerve. So harmonious. A serious and persistent Ribeira Sacra that makes you want to finish the bottle. Great depth, too. Mencia, brancellao, merenzao, caino and souson. 6,658 bottles made. Drink or hold.

About brand

The Fernando Algueira estate is situated in the heart of Ribeira Sacra, within the rugged mountains of Galicia, where the first vines were planted by the Romans. This 30-hectare estate is rich in history and traditions that span millennia. However, when Fernando Algueira took over the property, most of the vineyards were abandoned. Through time and persistent effort, his team successfully revitalized these ancient plots, bridging ancestral traditions with innovative viticultural methods.

Indigenous Varieties and Winemaking Philosophy

The estate places a profound emphasis on indigenous grape varieties that are perfectly adapted to the climate and soils of the Galician mountains. Initially, the project focused on producing single-varietal wines to reveal the true essence of each grape and achieve a unique varietal character. Over time, their creative ambition to further highlight the distinctiveness of the Ribeira Sacra territory led to the development of blends. Today, these blends have achieved remarkable success among both local enthusiasts and international wine experts.

Exemplary Wines

The wines produced at this estate perfectly reflect the singularity of the Galicia region, merging the innate qualities of native grapes with precise winemaking techniques. These blends are characterized by their unique complexity, balanced palate, and high structural integrity. Their growing popularity stems from an ability to satisfy both the casual connoisseur and the demanding expert. Fernando Algueira has become a true icon of the Ribeira Sacra region, contributing significantly to the revival of local winemaking traditions while innovating through sophisticated blending and experimental production methods.
