Fruit and berry dry
Roksala red 'Marquette' grape wine 2021 – a dry Lithuanian red from Taručiai village, Rokiškis district, made from 100% 'Marquette' grapes. This is a wine of deeper fruitiness and medium tannins, where northern freshness blends with a spicy, berry-driven character.
Aroma On the nose, cherries, black pepper and aromatic herbs come to the fore, while the background opens up to darker fruits – blackberries, plums, chokeberries, blueberries and a resinous/balsamic tone that lends the aroma a sense of gravity and a "northern" character.
Palate On the palate the wine is fruity and fresh, with medium, soft tannins. The spicy peppery accent carries through onto the palate as well, and the overall impression is of a balanced and reasonably structured wine.
Terroir Taručiai village in the Rokiškis district – a northern Lithuanian context in which the natural tension of acidity becomes the stylistic backbone of the wine. This also makes sense for the 'Marquette' variety itself: it was bred for cooler climates, and its wines frequently echo a spectrum of cherry, berry, pepper and spice.
Winemaking For this particular vintage the following production parameters are noted: harvested on 2021-10-12, must sugar level 20.5 °Brix, fermented at 27 °C, maceration 7 days; the wine was aged for 6 months in a new oak barrel and underwent MLF (malolactic fermentation). It is also noted that the wine may contain sediment.
Serve at 18–20 °C with pork roasts, pasta with minced meat or pizza.
