White semi dry
The wine is a product of organic farming, made from a single vineyard. Crafted from carefully hand-picked grapes grown on marl soil, the wine reveals aromas of white flowers, grapefruit, and white fruits. On the palate — quite sweet, with soft acidity, slightly bitterish, yet with a very long and complex finish.
Residual sugar in the wine is 58g/l.
The wine's ageing potential is 10-15 years; it is best enjoyed 3-4 years after bottling.
Decanting is recommended.
Recommended to serve at 10–12 °C with Indian curry dishes or soft cheeses such as Munster, Tomme and Morbier.
Very attractive lemon blossom and rose bouquet. Slightly funky (reductive), but this should blow off quickly. A very striking wine with a great balance of bright fruit, some creaminess on the mid-palate and a clean lemony finish. Better from 2019 and at least another 10 years of potential after that. Made from organic grapes
If you’re feeling adventurous, try this medium-sweet, biodynamic Gewurztraminer which has intriguing aromas of baked pineapple and a yeasty tang, akin to a Belgian lambic beer. Complex notes of fermenting hay and ripe melon forge through the powerful palate, with warming notes of stem ginger. I love how the savoury edge, spice and zest balance the sweetness.
Jean-Christophe Bott is heir to the family tradition dating back to 1795, when his ancestor, Jean-Martin Geyl tended his vines and made his wine. Jean-Christophe Bott has been responsible for Domaine Bott-Geyl since 1993 and he converted the vineyards to be organic in 2000 and then biodynamic in 2002. In the vineyards he concentrates on low yields and in the cellars he oversees the vinification in the most natural and minimalist manner. The whole art is to bring together tradition and modernity, to perpetuate the vignoble for posterity and to protect its ecology.
