Red dry
Château Du Pin – an appealing choice for Bordeaux enthusiasts: excellent value for money, an easily accessible style and rich fruitiness.
The wine reveals vivid aromas of violets and dark cherries. The palate is firm and concentrated from the very first sip, where ripe cherry accents also emerge. The finish carries nuances of freshly roasted coffee, while ripe, supple tannins lend a beautiful structure.
The Château Du Pin vineyards cover 27 hectares, stretching across gently rolling hills above the right bank of the Garonne river. This setting ensures an ideal amount of sunshine throughout the entire growing season. The higher reaches of the appellation are dominated by clay-rich soils, allowing the berries to ripen evenly even in challenging vintages. This harmony of topography, soil and climate gives the wine its rich fruitiness and pleasing texture.
Château Du Pin pairs well with duck in cherry sauce, aged hard cheeses and roast beef with herbs. Recommended serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
“Domaine Fontana-Chiquet” is a family estate located on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, near Gensac, where long-standing winemaking experience is combined with organic viticulture principles. The producer focuses on fruit purity, balance and the expression of the specific character of its origin, creating wines based on the classical Bordeaux style.
History and winemaking philosophy
The estate’s history began in 1950, when Angelo and Huguette Fontana founded the family property in the village of Gensac. Over several generations, the vineyards have been gradually expanded, and today the estate is managed by the third generation of the Fontana family. In recent years, particular attention has been given to organic viticulture, soil vitality and sustainable farming practices – the entire estate is certified organic.
Wine style
“Domaine Fontana-Chiquet” wines are created with the aim of preserving the classical Bordeaux balance between fruit, freshness and structure. The red wines show a combination of ripe black fruits, plums, spices and subtle oak notes, while barrel aging is used with restraint, complementing rather than masking the character of the fruit.
The white wines are characterised by fresh aromas of citrus fruits, white flowers and tropical fruit, lively acidity and a mineral finish. The estate also produces sweet Bordeaux-style wines from later-harvested grapes, where the key element is the balance between natural sweetness and refreshing acidity.
Vineyards and terroir
The vineyards of “Domaine Fontana-Chiquet” are located around Gensac, where clay and limestone soils dominate. This terroir provides the wines with structure, freshness and good aging potential. The vineyards are planted with traditional Bordeaux varieties – ‘Merlot’, ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Cabernet Franc’, as well as ‘Sauvignon Blanc’, ‘Sémillon’ and ‘Muscadelle’ – allowing the estate to create a diverse range of styles while maintaining a clear regional identity.
