Description

A masterpiece of the Darroze house, the 1972 "Château de Gaube" Armagnac is a true reflection of time in a bottle, originating from the very heart of Bas-Armagnac and characterized by an aristocratic calmness and warmth rather than aggressive power. Honed for over half a century, this spirit is destined for true collectors and gourmands who appreciate the natural, unblended expression of a single estate and a single harvest.

The nose is exceptionally open and multi-layered—enticing with notes of caramelized apricots, roasted walnuts, vanilla, and lightly smoky toast. The palate reveals magnificent maturity and a subtle structure of wood tannins, dominated by chords of prunes, dark chocolate, and wild hazelnuts, leading to a memorable, long, and silky finish.

This Armagnac is best tasted slowly, allowing it to open up in the glass for at least a few minutes, so serve it neat after a rich lunch or dinner. An excellent companion to luxurious nut desserts, dried fruit cakes, or slow-aged, intensely flavored hard cheeses.

About brand

Darroze in the world of Armagnac stands for far more than quality — it represents a philosophy. It is a family story spanning more than a century and one of the most authentic expressions of the Gascony region.

The story began at the end of the 19th century, when the Darroze family started working with local winegrowers in Gascony. However, it was in the mid-20th century, thanks to Francis Darroze, that the house took on its present identity. He understood that the true value of Armagnac lies not in volume or blending for consistency, but in specific places, soils, vintages, and the human hand behind them.

Darroze Armagnac is never blended to achieve a uniform taste profile. Each bottle reflects a single estate, a single harvest, and a single story. It is a spirit that evolves, matures, and gains complexity with time. For this reason, Darroze is often compared to great wines rather than industrial spirits.

Most Darroze Armagnacs come from the Bas-Armagnac region, considered the most refined and elegant part of the appellation. The sandy and clay-rich soils give the distillates their signature softness, aromatic depth, and long aging potential. Distillation is carried out using the traditional continuous column still, followed by slow, natural maturation in French oak barrels.

Today, Darroze is regarded as one of the most important guardians of traditional Armagnac. Its creations are highly valued by collectors, sommeliers, and spirits enthusiasts around the world.

This is not a mass-produced spirit — it is a living piece of Gascony’s history in a glass.
