PRE-SALE WINES ARRIVE AT THE WINE CLUB AT THE END OF JULY THIS YEAR
Discover the rare and distinguished Domaine Bertagna Vougeot 1er Cru Clos de la Perrière Monopole 2017, a true gem from Burgundy's Côte de Nuits.
This 2017 vintage offers an elegant and subtle yet expressive and complex profile. In its youth, it reveals a floral bouquet, which gracefully evolves with age into classic aromas of undergrowth, toasted almonds, and eventually coffee. Expect clean notes of red cherry and raspberry, leaving a spicy taste on the palate, complemented by a lively texture and a long finish. Truffle and tobacco notes are often present, adding to its intricate spice profile.
The "Monopole" designation signifies that the entire 2.25-hectare vineyard, situated uniquely between the Grand Crus of Clos de Vougeot and Musigny, is exclusively owned by Domaine Bertagna – an exceptional rarity in Burgundy, guaranteeing meticulous quality control from vine to bottle. Furthermore, "Clos" denotes that this vineyard is enclosed by a stone wall, contributing to its distinct microclimate and safeguarding its precious vines.
The Pinot Noir grapes are meticulously cultivated on stony soils with excellent drainage. Through manual harvesting into small baskets and rigorous hand-sorting in both the vineyard and winery, only the finest fruit is selected. Following a cold maceration, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks for 21-28 days, utilizing only natural grape yeasts.
The wine then undergoes extended aging for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, imparting structure and complexity.
Serve 16°C - 17°C with roasted duck breast with cherry sauce, mushroom risotto with truffle oil, or pan-seared lamb chops with rosemary and thyme.
Located in the commune of Vougeot within France’s renowned Burgundy region, the historic Domaine Bertagna boasts vineyards with a storied past, once belonging to the Cistercian monks of the nearby Abbey of Cîteaux, who famously founded Clos de Vougeot in the 12th century. The modern narrative of the Bertagna estate has been beautifully shaped by the fifth-generation winemaking Reh family.
While the extended Reh family owns several winemaking ventures globally, including Germany’s renowned Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, their footprint in Burgundy has steadily grown since 1954. Gunther Reh acquired Domaine Bertagna in 1982, and his dynamic daughter, Eva Reh, took over management of the estate in 1988.
Wine Style
Under Eva's direction, Domaine Bertagna has placed significant emphasis on fermentation technologies and modern vineyard management. Her winemaking philosophy highlights terroir expression, purity of fruit, intense aromatics, elegance, longevity, and subtle oak influence. These are precise Burgundy wines that beautifully articulate a classic style.
Prestigious Vineyards
Domaine Bertagna cultivates vineyards across 18 different appellations within Burgundy’s highly regarded Côte de Nuits region, with 12 of these being Premiers and Grands Crus. This quality and diversity have solidified the estate’s place among the top echelon of Burgundian domaines.
