Penedés is distinguished by a unique microclimate, with vineyards stretching from the warm Mediterranean coast to the cooler highlands. White wines are mostly crafted from indigenous Xarel-lo, Macabeo, and Parellada grapes, exhibiting refreshing notes of apple, citrus, and light almond. The red wines are created from traditional Garnacha, Tempranillo (locally called Ull de Llebre), and successfully adapted international varieties, impressing with aromas of dark berries, plums, and spices.
Does Penedés DO only produce sparkling wine?
No. While the region is the center for sparkling wine, the Penedés DO appellation strictly designates still (non-sparkling) white, rosé, and red wines. Sparkling wines from this area are classified under the separate Cava DO (or Corpinnat / Clàssic Penedès) designations.
What is the ideal serving temperature?
White and rosé Penedés wines are best chilled to 8–10 °C to highlight their freshness. Red wines are recommended to be served at around 15–17 °C.
