Description

Gramona Gessamí Penedès DO 2024 is an aromatic, lively and very recognizable style white Penedès DO wine from Catalonia, made from 50% ‘Muscat’, 35% ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ and 15% ‘Gewürztraminer’. The 2024 vintage is characterized by a light body, a bright aromatic expression and a moderate, but noticeable softness, which is supported by about 6 g/l of residual sugar.

The wine opens very expressively in aroma: white flowers, jasmine, orange blossom, roses, as well as apricot, peach, citrus and light nuances of herbs and infusions are felt. This is a more floral and fresh aromatic profile, thanks to which “Gessamí” retains its unique, easily recognizable character.

The wine has a silky texture and light body, with fresh acidity. In the mouth, it leaves a delicately soft impression, balanced by citrus freshness and a long, aromatic aftertaste with echoes of white flowers and citrus peel.

The character of this wine is shaped by the Penedès climate and Gramona’s approach to agriculture. The winery itself works on its farms according to the principles of organic and biodynamic winemaking, and “Gessamí” is presented as a wine that aims to preserve the purest aromatic expression of the origin and varieties.

In the winery, the varieties are vinified separately: after selection and separation from the stems, a short cold maceration with the skins is applied, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 13-15 °C. This scheme allows for maximum preservation of the precision of the aromas, fresh and clean fruity expression.

About brand

Gramona is one of the most prestigious Spanish sparkling wine producers, with over a century of viticultural tradition in the Penedès region of Catalonia. The family winery has become famous for its commitment to quality, ecology and the philosophy of long-aged wines.

Organic vineyards and biodynamic philosophy

Gramona vineyards are cultivated organically and biodynamically, respecting the principles of nature. The family's approach to viticulture is based on a belief in the cycles of the moon and the influence of the universe on the soil and vines.

History and tradition: from 1881 to today

In 1945, Bartomeu and Josep Lluís Gramona began a new era in winemaking - they were the first to establish the concept of long-aged sparkling wines in Spain.

In 1951, the first Gramona III Lustros was created, released in 1961.

In 2021 The Gramona family celebrated 100 years as a sparkling wine producer and 140 years as a grape grower.

Today, the Gramona story is continued by the fifth and sixth generations – Jaume, Roc and Leonard Gramona – following the principles of sustainability and quality.

Traditional method and exceptional quality

Gramona wines are produced using the traditional method (Méthode Traditionnelle), identical to champagne production, and their maturation period ranges from 18 months to even 12 years – more than double the standard Cava requirements.

What makes Gramona sparkling wines stand out?

In addition to the traditional Cava grapes (Xarel·lo, Macabeo, Parellada), they also use Chardonnay, which gives it an elegant and international style.

Taste: aromas of nuts, freshly baked pastries and autolysis (yeast decomposition).

Naturally low in sugar, but with a balanced and delicate acidity.

A new generation of quality: Corpinnat

After a long-standing commitment to improving Cava’s reputation, in 2019 Gramona left the official DO Cava designation of origin and became one of the founding members of the Corpinnat association. Corpinnat means “born in the heart” and represents the highest quality sparkling wines produced exclusively in the Penedès region, following strict organic production and long-term maturation requirements.
