Red dry
A classic expression of the Southern Rhône. A wine defined by aromatic clarity, refined structure, and subtle power — qualities that characterize only the finest creations of Saint Cosme.
On the nose, aromas of black plums, blueberries, black cherries, and gentle blackberry notes unfold. These are accompanied by hallmark ‘Syrah’ characteristics: violet florals, black pepper, herbal tones, a touch of smoke, and subtle earthy nuances. As the wine opens, hints of sweet spices and delicate cocoa emerge.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet graceful. The tannins are smooth and finely polished, providing structure without harshness. Acidity is moderate, maintaining balance and freshness. Flavors are driven by dark berries, spice, and light smoky and mineral notes.
The ‘Syrah’ grapes come from limestone, clay, and stony slopes across different areas of the southern Rhône, where the soils contribute depth, complexity, and character to the wine.
Winemaking follows the classic Saint Cosme philosophy: fermentation with native yeasts, followed by ageing in a combination of used oak barrels and concrete vats, preserving the purity of the grape while adding gentle structure and finesse.
Serve at 16-18 °C with roasted game, stewed meat dishes, or hard mature cheeses.
Château de Saint Cosme is one of the oldest and most respected wineries in the southern Rhône Valley, located in the Gigondas appellation. The estate’s history dates back to the 16th century, and today it is run by Louis Barruol, representing the 14th generation of the family dedicated to preserving and developing this exceptional domaine.
The winery is renowned for its organic and biodynamic viticulture and for its highly precise work in the cellar. The vineyards grow on limestone, clay, and sandy soils, which give the wines structure, mineral tension, and remarkable ageing potential.
The estate’s flagship grape variety is ‘Grenache’, alongside ‘Syrah’, ‘Mourvèdre’, and ‘Cinsault’. Grapes are harvested by hand, fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, and ageing often takes place in old oak barrels or concrete vats to preserve the purity of the terroir and the authenticity of the wine.
Château de Saint Cosme wines are known for:
expressive yet balanced fruit character
elegant structure
pronounced minerality
excellent ageing potential
The estate is widely regarded as a benchmark of Gigondas, respected both in France and internationally as one of the most authentic expressions of the Southern Rhône.
