Description

The 2022 Château Labégorce offers an exceptional opportunity to experience the best of this renowned appellation. With its captivating aromatics and impressive palate, this wine is a must-have for any serious collector or discerning enthusiast.

As a distinguished Margaux wine, it opens with a rich and inviting nose of ripe berry, plum, and crème de cassis. Underlying notes of cedar, roasted aromas, and delicate floral hints of lilac add to its complexity. The palate is powerful, showcasing ripe, juicy fruit, beautiful concentration, and appealing fine-grained tannins that lead to a harmonious finish.

This exquisite wine is crafted from a 62.5-hectare vineyard within the AOC Margaux, supplemented by 4.5 hectares in the Haut-Médoc appellation. The vines, averaging 30 years in age, thrive on the typical sandy-gravelly, sandy-silty, and clay-limestone soils of the Margaux appellation, contributing significantly to the wine's unique character.

The grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring optimal quality. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats, allowing for precise control over the fermentation process. The wine is then aged in barrels, with 40% new oak, which further enhances its structure, complexity, and longevity.

About brand

Château Labégorce is a distinguished Bordeaux wine estate located in the Margaux appellation, one of the most elegant and revered terroirs on the Médoc’s Left Bank. The estate enjoys a prestigious position along the famed Route des Châteaux, bordering vineyards of legendary neighbors such as Château Margaux and Château Lascombes.

The history of Labégorce dates back centuries, with records mentioning the land associated with the noble La Bégorce family as early as 1332, highlighting the estate’s deep-rooted heritage in the region. The château itself, built in a beautiful neoclassical style, has been celebrated since at least the 19th century for its architectural charm and prime location in the heart of Margaux.

In 1989, the estate was acquired by the Perrodo family, who revitalized both the vineyards and the winemaking tradition, infusing the property with renewed architectural and viticultural dynamism. The family has continued to invest passionately in quality and reputation, and in 2006 they also added Château Marquis d’Alesme Becker, a Third Grand Cru Classé estate, expanding their presence in Margaux even further.

Château Labégorce’s vineyards span approximately 70 hectares, planted predominantly on classic Margaux gravelly-sandy soils with silty components characteristic of the appellation’s terroir. The vineyard mix typically includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, with vines averaging around 30 years old.

Winemaking at Labégorce follows traditional Bordeaux practices: hand harvesting, temperature-controlled fermentation in concrete vats, malolactic fermentation, and barrel aging for around 12–15 months with a portion of new French oak. This careful process produces wines that express both richness and elegance.

The wines of Château Labégorce are known for their refined structure, vibrant fruit character, and harmonious balance. They often feature expressive notes of dark berries, cedar, spice, and floral hints, framed by polished, fine-grained tannins. These wines reflect the signature elegance of Margaux poised, expressive, and capable of rewarding bottle age over many years.
