White Bordeaux wine from the historic Picque Caillou estate, located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, near Château Haut-Brion and Château Pape Clément. The wine stands out for its freshness, citrus fruitiness, and the stony character typical of gravel soils.
On the nose it reveals grapefruit, lemon zest, green apples, white peaches and gooseberries, complemented by notes of white flowers, herbs and wet stone. As the wine warms in the glass, subtle creamy and spicy nuances emerge. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, fresh and textural, with bright citrus acidity. Flavours of lemon, green fruit and a stony mineral character dominate, while the finish is dry, refreshing and long.
The vineyards of Château Picque Caillou lie in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, where soils of gravel and sandy gravel deposited by the Garonne river predominate. These well-draining soils are one of the key elements of the wine’s style – they give the wine freshness, a stony character and help preserve acidity.
The wine is made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermentation begins at low temperature, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels on fine lees, with periodic stirring (bâtonnage) for part of the time.
