Red dry
An exceptional Burgundy masterpiece from one of the most prestigious Côte de Nuits vineyards. With its unique monopole status, the vineyard belongs exclusively to Domaine Bertagna, meaning this wine is produced solely here and nowhere else.
The bouquet reveals notes of wild cherries, blackberries, and delicate floral hints, complemented by refined earthiness, subtle spice, and gentle oak nuances. On the palate, the wine is deep and medium-bodied, with an elegant acidity line, silky tannins, and concentrated fruit expression. The finish is long and mineral-driven, reminiscent of true Grand Cru benchmarks.
The ‘Pinot Noir’ grapes thrive in stony soils enriched with limestone and iron minerals. The harvest is done by hand, with careful sorting both in the vineyard and winery. After a period of cold maceration, fermentation takes place over 21–28 days with wild yeasts, followed by 15–18 months of aging in French oak barrels, about 40% of which are new.
Recommended serving temperature is 16–18 °C, pairing beautifully with duck in cherry sauce, venison loin with wild mushrooms, or aged Comté cheese.
The domaine now makes two cuvées, this one from the old vines of 65 years, the rest going elsewhere as just Vougeot 1er Cru. Rich crimson purple with notable density. Fills the mouth, dark raspberry while the oak provides quite a feel of vanilla extract while the wine is so young. This will blend in later. Tasted May 2021.
