Domenico Clerico Ginestra Pajana Barolo DOCG 2019 – one of the most expressive wines of Piedmont, a jewel from the prestigious Ginestra vineyard, an investment in taste, quality and history.
The wine boasts a complex aroma dominated by cherry, blackberry and dried rose, with subtle nuances of tobacco, leather and spice. On the palate – a firm tannic backbone, balanced acidity and a long-lasting mineral finish. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for approximately 24 months.
Why choose this Barolo? It is a limited release vintage, with 2019 being an outstanding year in Piedmont. This is a wine that improves with time – its ageing potential spans 15–25 years. The winemaker, Domenico Clerico, is a renowned figure of the Barolo modernist movement, who has masterfully and respectfully shaped the craft of producing Barolo wines.
Serve at 16–18 °C with game roasts or stews with wild mushrooms/truffles, beef steaks and mature cheeses.
The front of this bottle now lists its MGA provenance, Ginestra. The Domenico Clerico 2019 Barolo Ginestra Pajana shows a more open initial impression (next to the Ciabot Mentin) with soft black fruit. The wine makes a bigger impact in terms of texture with firm structure and silky tannins. It is just a little more open-knit and accessible. Some 5,000 bottles were released, and for the first time, Pajana is aged only in large oak casks (measuring 5,000 liters).
Domenico Clerico has been one of the greatest innovators in the Italian wine world, a long and constant task, everything focused on enhancing the qualities of Barolo with the philosophy and passion that has always guided him and moreover he has been able to skifully convey this to those who have followed in his footsteps.
