Description

Georg Breuer Berg Rottland Rheingau Riesling 2018 QbA - a single-vineyard Riesling from the Berg Rottland vineyard in Rüdesheim in the Rheingau region. This is a concentrated but not heavy wine that combines minerality, elegance and a clear inner tension.

The aroma is dominated by notes of apricot, apple, herbs and juicy lemon, accompanied by a stony, dusty mineral impression. This aromatic profile is not noisy or exotic. It is more precise, restrained and layered, typical of the more serious style of Rheingau Riesling.

The wine is juicy but not massive. It is characterized by good flow, lively acidity and a dry, clear structure.

The analytical indicators show a neat balance: 4.1 g/l residual sugar and 6.9 g/l acid, so the wine maintains freshness, precision and a long, mineral aftertaste.

Berg Rottland is one of the most famous vineyards on the Rüdesheim slopes. This location has a southern exposure, and the soils combine deep loess with shallow, stony layers of slate and sandstone. The VDP source indicates that the vines were planted here as early as 1074, and the name is associated with the old meaning of the word “preparation of the land for cultivation”. Such a combination usually gives the wine ripeness, stonyness and long development potential.

2018 was a very successful year for Georg Breuer’s farm: after a cold winter period, an early bud burst, a hot summer and healthy, abundant bunches followed. The producer emphasizes that the quality of the harvest was excellent.

Awarded “Riesling of the Year” by the wine magazine “Vinum” - this is a bearable lightness of being, deep and complex, clear and lively. Great wine!

James Suckling

A gently spicy and creamy layer underpins this very vibrant and fresh, dry riesling. Considerable structure and weight here. Flowers and fruit on the nose translate to smooth white-nectarines- and lemon flavors. Drink or hold.

Winemaking Philosophy

Weingut Georg Breuer is dedicated to producing elegant, dry Riesling wines with a strong sense of terroir. The quality pyramid ranges from Estate and village-level Riesling to the premium Terra Montosa cuvée and single-vineyard Grand Cru wines. The focus lies on low yields (especially 15–25 hl/ha in top sites), rigorous hand selection of healthy ripe grapes, spontaneous fermentation, and ageing in traditional large oak casks.

The winery practices sustainable viticulture and is certified under the FAIR’N GREEN standard — one of the strictest sustainability certifications in Germany.

Wine Style

Georg Breuer Rieslings are characterized by purity, finesse, vibrant minerality, and excellent structure. They offer great drinking pleasure when young, yet possess the balance, acidity, and depth to age gracefully for 15–30+ years.

Weingut Georg Breuer represents classic, high-end Rheingau winemaking at its best — refined, terroir-driven, and timeless.
