Description

Georg Breuer Berg Rottland Rüdesheim Riesling 2023 is a premium wine from the Rheingau region, the town of Rüdesheim, from the Berg Rottland vineyard, classified as a “Große Lage”. This wine is distinguished by its purity, minerality and elegance, reflecting the craftsmanship and respect for tradition of the Georg Breuer family.

Berg Rottland, one of the prestigious Rheingau areas, is characterized by complex soil, which combines layers of clay, sand, slate and sandstone. The vines are 40 years old. After spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, the wine is aged in large oak barrels.

Aroma: fresh and expressive, with notes of citrus fruits (lemons, tangerines), white peach, green apples and herbs. Subtle smoky and mineral hints add depth.

A sunny and energetic wine, with juicy yellow fruit, herbal and floral accents. Bright acidity and high minerality provide a long and elegant aftertaste.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 9–11°C with seafood, grilled fish, spicy Asian cuisine or light poultry dishes.

James Suckling

This giant of a dry riesling is anything but monumental in scale, much less overbearing. Instead it is a masterpiece of finesse and is old-fashioned in the best sense of that word on the precisely contoured, medium-bodied palate. Very long, super-elegant finish with a wealth of crushed rock minerality. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold.

Wine Advocate

From the steep western part of the cru and near the Rhine River, the 2023 Berg Rottland opens clear and subtle on the nevertheless intense and elegant nose that reveals bright fruit aromas intertwined with smoky/flinty as well as lemon notes, weathered rocks, herbs and salts. Very elegant and balanced on the palate, this is a fine and playful, pure and frisky rather than rich and powerful Riesling. One might ask what would have happened if it had been picked earlier or, to me more fair, if the grapes had ripened more slowly. The finish is savory and grippy yet also still a little austere. Currently, it's a rather pure if not ascetic and protestant Berg Rottland. 12.5% stated alcohol. Diam 30 cork. Tasted in August 2024.
