White dry
JurtschitschRiesling “Ried Heiligenstein” 2003, one of the most prestigious wines from the Kamptal region, is made from 100% Riesling grapes grown on the “Heiligenstein” hill, which is considered one of the best terroirs in Austria.
Aroma: Subtly floral, expressive, with notes of honey, ripe stone fruits, citrus (especially orange peel). It is complemented by elegant white pepper minerality and a light earthy touch, giving the aroma depth and complexity.
Taste: The wine is refined and balanced in the mouth. Bright but soft acidity is combined with a fruity character - peaches, limes, light spice dominate. The minerality of the wine leads to a long, elegant and refreshing aftertaste.
The grapes are grown on the organically certified Kamptal Heiligenstein vineyard terraces – the soil is dominated by Permian sandstone and quartz sand with an intense mineral structure.
The grapes are hand-picked. The must is then macerated for several hours. The naturally settled must is fermented in 2000-liter wooden barrels made of local oak with natural yeast. The wine is aged with yeast for about 6 months.
Serve at 10-12 °C. Ideal accompaniment to light, fresh dishes. Wide range – from seafood and fish to white meat (chicken, veal, pork) and fresh cheese.
The Jurtschitsch winery is located in the historic Sonnhof estate in the north of Austria, in the famous Kamptal wine region. The history of the estate's cellars dates back to the 14th century, when the land was worked by monks. In 1868, the estate was purchased by the Jurtschitsch family, who have since then nurtured the tradition of winemaking with respect for nature and innovation.
Leaders in innovation in Austrian winemaking
The Jurtschitsch winery has long been one of the most progressive in Kamptal. They were the first in the region to:
Filter and bottle the wine themselves (previously this was done by intermediaries)
Organic winemaking - since 1972
Promoting wines from individual vineyards in order to reveal the terroir - the influence of soil, climate and location on the taste of the wine
Today, the name Jurtschitsch stands for unrivaled quality, stability and sustainability worldwide.
Vineyards and main grape varieties
Most of the vineyards are dedicated to white grape varieties, and the winery pays special attention to:
Grüner Veltliner - the flagship of the Kamptal region, known for its minerality and freshness
Riesling - an expressive, complex and long-maturing wine
The family carefully works with single-vineyard wines, emphasizing the natural diversity and terroir influence - this is highly appreciated among wine experts and collectors.
GruVe - art and wine in one
Since 1987, Jurtschitsch has been presenting a special GruVe Grüner Veltliner wine every year, the label of which is designed by a different artist every year. It is not only a high-quality dry white wine, but also an art project that attracts creative and wine lovers all over the world.
