Sparkling dry
Gramona Corpinnat Gran Reserva Celler Batlle Brut 2015 is one of the most prestigious sparkling wines from the Gramona house, considered an example of their philosophy and long-term aging mastery.
The wine is made from 70% ‘Xarel·lo’ and 30% ‘Macabeo’ grapes grown on the historic Can Romeu estate in the Penedès region. These biodynamically cultivated vineyards are characterized by calcareous, sandy and pebbly soils, which give the wine minerality, tension and longevity.
The aroma reveals an extremely deep and layered profile: white peaches, baked apples, citrus peel, white flowers, Mediterranean herbs, brioche, roasted nuts, notes of old book pages and bread crust. The long aging with yeasts gives complexity, but the aromatics remain not heavy, but very precise and elegant.
The wine is extremely creamy, but at the same time energetic and lively. The bubbles are very fine, almost dissolved in the texture. The ‘Xarel lo’ provides structure, a salty sensation and a long mineral aftertaste, while the ‘Macabeo’ adds softness and aromatic elegance. The aftertaste retains nuances of roasted almonds, citrus, buttery dough and subtle spices.
The 2015 vintage was aged with yeast in the bottle for over 100 months, using a natural cork instead of a metal capsule – one of the exclusive practices of ‘Gramona’. Remuage and dégorgement are done by hand, and the dosage is very low or in some batches not used at all, so all attention is focused on the character of the terroir and maturity.
Serve at 8-10°C as an aperitif. This is a very gastronomic sparkling wine, perfect with lobster, seafood, Iberian ham, aged cheeses, truffles, grilled poultry or creamy Mediterranean dishes.
There is a big change in the 2015 Celler Batlle Brut Nature, because from this year forward, it's sourced only from the Can Romeu lieu-dit, a two-hectare plot (it was 6.5 hectares, but 4.5 hectares were replanted in 2021) on sandy and gravel soils, the historical zone where Gramona has sourced grapes, looking for more finesse and more ethereal wines. They keep the wine without dósage, and it has a spicy nose of curry and fennel. It's subtle and elegant, with a textured mouthfeel and tiny bubbles. It matured in bottle for no less than 98 months. The autolysis of the lees feels subtle, and there are very fine toast aromas. The bottle I tasted was disgorged one year ago, something they are going to do for this wine and for the Enoteca range, so it has had time to settle. 2015 was the beginning of warmer and drier years, but the wine keeps the freshness, elegance and poise. 4,000 bottles produced.
Gramona is one of the most prestigious Spanish sparkling wine producers, with over a century of viticultural tradition in the Penedès region of Catalonia. The family winery has become famous for its commitment to quality, ecology and the philosophy of long-aged wines.
Organic vineyards and biodynamic philosophy
Gramona vineyards are cultivated organically and biodynamically, respecting the principles of nature. The family's approach to viticulture is based on a belief in the cycles of the moon and the influence of the universe on the soil and vines.
History and tradition: from 1881 to today
In 1945, Bartomeu and Josep Lluís Gramona began a new era in winemaking - they were the first to establish the concept of long-aged sparkling wines in Spain.
In 1951, the first Gramona III Lustros was created, released in 1961.
In 2021 The Gramona family celebrated 100 years as a sparkling wine producer and 140 years as a grape grower.
Today, the Gramona story is continued by the fifth and sixth generations – Jaume, Roc and Leonard Gramona – following the principles of sustainability and quality.
Traditional method and exceptional quality
Gramona wines are produced using the traditional method (Méthode Traditionnelle), identical to champagne production, and their maturation period ranges from 18 months to even 12 years – more than double the standard Cava requirements.
What makes Gramona sparkling wines stand out?
In addition to the traditional Cava grapes (Xarel·lo, Macabeo, Parellada), they also use Chardonnay, which gives it an elegant and international style.
Taste: aromas of nuts, freshly baked pastries and autolysis (yeast decomposition).
Naturally low in sugar, but with a balanced and delicate acidity.
A new generation of quality: Corpinnat
After a long-standing commitment to improving Cava’s reputation, in 2019 Gramona left the official DO Cava designation of origin and became one of the founding members of the Corpinnat association. Corpinnat means “born in the heart” and represents the highest quality sparkling wines produced exclusively in the Penedès region, following strict organic production and long-term maturation requirements.
