"Controdanza" is a traditional country dance in which dancers move elegantly through opposition and accord. This is what we had in mind when blending Nero d'Avola with a small amount of Merlot, grown in the white lands of Noto. It is not a conventional blend — everything in it is built on contrast rather than similarity. It was conceived as a classic "second wine" from vines that do not reach the achievements of the Santa Cecilia wines, although they grow in the valleys surrounding the Buonivini winery. These are the lowest valley plots, where the fruit acquires the typical Nero d'Avola balsamic character on the calcareous soils of Noto. Typical Nero d'Avola notes from the Noto area: mulberry and plum, together with bay, incense and balsamic notes, balanced and enlivened by the addition of vibrant Merlot grown on the same calcareous soils. Harmonious, with soft tannins.
Serve at 16–18 °C with expressive pork dishes and richly flavoured fish.
90 Aromas of baked cherry, mushroom, basil and grated nutmeg. Medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins. Nicely ripened red fruit on the palate, with subtle savory character. Vanilla finish. Sustainable. Best after 2024.
