Weingut Knoll Riesling Vinothekfüllung Smaragd 2024 is an exceptional, highly concentrated and long-lasting dry Riesling from the Wachau. It is one of the winery's most prestigious cuvées, made from carefully selected, very well-ripened grapes harvested in the best vineyards in the Loiben area, including Loibenberg and Kellerberg.
The aroma is intense and multi-layered. It reveals ripe peaches, apricots, nectarines, kumquats and candied lemon notes, complemented by pineapple, white flowers, honey, soft spices and stony minerality.
The wine is rich, powerful and concentrated, while maintaining the freshness and tension characteristic of Riesling. The fruitiness of ripe stone fruits and citrus is balanced by lively acidity, herbal nuances and a salty mineral character. The texture is smooth and silky, and the aftertaste is exceptionally long, precise and spicy.
The wine is aged for 9 months in a large neutral wooden barrel, so the wood aromas are not prominent - the aging primarily gives the wine texture and complexity.
The Smaragd designation indicates a complex, dry and long-lasting Wachau wine, made from grapes that have ripened on the vine for a longer period. Wines in this category are characterized by an alcohol content of at least 12.5% and good aging potential.
It is recommended to serve at a temperature of 10–12 °C. Goes well with oysters, lobster, scallops, fried or buttered fish, poultry, veal, Viennese schnitzel and lightly spicy Asian dishes.
This is very aromatic, showing candied lemons, honeysuckle, coriander, ripe nectarines and candied ginger. It’s powerful, compact and full-bodied, with lemony, herbal brightness to the ripe fruit. Spicy at the end. Better in a few years. Try from 2027.
