Bott-Geyl Pinot Gris Sonnenglanz Grand Cru Alsace 2019

Description

An exceptionally rich and complex biodynamic wine from one of Alsace's most renowned vineyards—Sonnenglanz.

The wine’s bouquet is luxurious and multi-layered: the glass reveals notes of ripe apricots, yellow plums, linden honey, and soft vanilla, complemented by subtle hints of smoke, roasted nuts, and exotic spices. This rich palette leads into a full-bodied, oily, and incredibly concentrated palate. Crafted in a semi-sweet (moelleux) style, its lush fruitiness is masterfully balanced by a firm mineral structure and elegant acidity, resulting in an exceptionally long finish reminiscent of dried fruits.

The grapes for this wine are exclusively hand-harvested from the prestigious Sonnenglanz Grand Cru vineyard in the village of Beblenheim. The Jurassic limestone and marl soils grant the 'Pinot Gris' grapes a unique weight and minerality. Winemaker Jean-Christophe Bott applies the strictest principles of biodynamic viticulture here, allowing nature to dictate the wine's unique character.

After a slow fermentation with native yeasts, the wine undergoes extended aging on its fine lees (sur lie).

Serving recommendations

Serve at 10-12 °C with Indian curries, soft cheeses (Munster, Tomme, Morbier).

About brand

Jean-Christophe Bott is heir to the family tradition dating back to 1795, when his ancestor, Jean-Martin Geyl tended his vines and made his wine. Jean-Christophe Bott has been responsible for Domaine Bott-Geyl since 1993 and he converted the vineyards to be organic in 2000 and then biodynamic in 2002. In the vineyards he concentrates on low yields and in the cellars he oversees the vinification in the most natural and minimalist manner. The whole art is to bring together tradition and modernity, to perpetuate the vignoble for posterity and to protect its ecology.
