Red dry
Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo 2021 is one of the most elegant and terroir-revealing wines of the Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva series. The Rio Sordo cru is located in the southeastern part of the Barbaresco commune, where calcareous marl soils and a milder microclimate allow the cultivation of ‘Nebbiolo’ grapes, which produce wines with extremely harmonious, aromatic and precise structures. Compared to Montestefano or Ovello, Rio Sordo is more likely to stand out for its elegance, aromatic expression and silky texture.
The aroma reveals notes of dried roses, violets, ripe cherries and wild raspberries. They are complemented by red orange peel, licorice, anise, dried herbs and subtle mineral nuances. Opening in the glass, the wine reveals hints of tobacco, forest floor and light balsamic herbs.
The wine stands out for its special balance between concentration and grace. Bright acidity provides energy, while fine, precisely integrated tannins create an elegant structure. Layers of red fruit, spice and minerals flow into a long, fresh and complex aftertaste, revealing the classic Rio Sordo subtlety.
After fermentation, the wine is aged for 36 months in large oak barrels, followed by additional bottle aging.
Serve at 16-18 °C. Food pairing: veal osso buco, duck, braised veal, beef cheek, wild mushroom dishes, truffle-flavored pasta, mature hard cheeses.
Dark and floral, showing aromas of potpourri combined with dried cherries, tangy pomegranate and a bit of earthy minerality. Almost supple, with medium to full body and a savory palate of candied orange peel. Firm tannins are dusty yet ripe, with refreshing acidity. March 2026 release. Drink or hold.
Produttori del Barbaresco, founded in 1958, now has 51 members and controls more than 100 hectares of premium Nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco. Each family is in full control of its land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with centuries old skill and dedication. The vinery produces a Barbaresco DOCG, a blend of Nebbiolo grapes harvested from different vineyards, and a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe suited for earlier consumption. In great vintages, nine single-vineyard Barbarescos are produced from nine classic premium sites within the Barbaresco village boundaries: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota, and Rio Sordo. These are the geographical names of sites where Nebbiolo grapes have always been cultivated. The name of the single-vineyards, the total number of bottles produced, and the name of the owners of the vineyards are marked on the labels. Produttori del Barbaresco, which vinifies only Nebbiolo grapes, produce around 550 000 bottles per year. In a good vintage they are divided among Barbaresco (50%), single vineyard Barbarescos (30%) and Nebbiolo Langhe (20%).
