About brand

Ronchi di Cialla is a legendary family winery in the Friuli Colli Orientali region of north-eastern Italy, nestled in the quiet, forest-covered Cialla valley right on the Slovenian border. Founded in 1970 by Paolo and Dina Rapuzzi, the estate entered winemaking history as the saviour of the Schioppettino grape: having found only 60 surviving vines of this variety, nearly extinct after the phylloxera epidemic, they planted the first modern Schioppettino vineyard and persuaded the Italian authorities to officially permit its cultivation. For this achievement the family received the first famous Nonino "Risit d'Aur" prize in 1976, and in 1989 Schioppettino was granted DOC status.

Today the winery is run by sons Pierpaolo and Ivan, who champion Friuli's native varieties: Schioppettino, Refosco, Pignolo, Ribolla Gialla, Verduzzo and Picolit. The estate farms organically, protecting the valley's biodiversity, and its wines are renowned for elegance, freshness, spicy notes (especially white pepper) and long ageing potential. Ronchi di Cialla is a true icon of Friuli winemaking.
