Description

Soldera Case Basse 2020 is an extremely expressive, authentic and limited edition wine from the very heart of Tuscany, where the Sangiovese grape reaches its peak of elegance and depth. This wine is produced at the legendary Case Basse winery, where each bottle is a synthesis of craftsmanship, nature and tradition.

Fermentation is carried out with wild yeasts, taking place in open-type wooden barrels (Slavonian oak). Maceration is long to maximize the structure and aromas - often over 3-4 weeks. The wine is unfiltered.

Maturation:
Long maturation in large Slavonian oak barrels ("botti grandi"), with a volume of about 60 hl.

The barrels are used many times - the aim is to ensure that the wood does not permeate the wine, but allows the purity of the 'Sangiovese' to develop.

Maturation duration: usually 5-6 years before bottling, and then another ~1 year in the bottle.

Minimal sulfite content – only as much as is necessary for long-term stability.
Aromas: intense and multi-layered – red berries (cherries, raspberries), dried roses, licorice, notes of leather, tobacco and wet earth.

Taste: perfectly structured, elegant backbone of tannins, long-lasting aftertaste with a combination of ripe fruit and spices.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 16-18°C with beef, game dishes, and mature cheeses.

About brand

The history of the Soldera Case Basse winery began in the early 1970s. Gianfranco and Graziella Soldera nurtured a project to produce a high-quality natural wine and knew they could only achieve this if they found a terroir with certain essential features. When they discovered Case Basse, they knew they had found what they were looking for: an enchanting estate, which lay uncultivated and abandoned at the time. Instinctively realising the potential of the place and bowled over by the beauty of the landscape, Gianfranco and Graziella decided to set up their winery here and planted the first vines between 1972 and 1973, carefully choosing the plots most suitable for growing Sangiovese. It is thanks to the passion, dedication and care they devoted to this land that an extremely high-quality natural wine appreciated all over the world has been produced at Case Basse since the mid-1970s. After Gianfranco Soldera passed away in February 2019, the family continued the business in full respect of the principles and founding values of Case Basse.
