Beekeeping Heritage and the Natural Soul of Šušvė
Šušvė Mead is a family-owned company based in the village of Plinkaigalis, in the Kėdainiai region of central Lithuania. Its founder, Erikas Augustinavičius, is a third-generation beekeeper who learned the craft from his grandfather and mother. Nestled along the banks of the Šušvė River, the family apiary now cares for over 200 beehives, producing the honey that becomes this exceptional Lithuanian drink.
All honey used is completely natural, with no chemical additives, and the mead is aged for no less than one year, with some styles matured for up to three years. The result is a mead with a noble, subtly sweet flavor, and an aroma that begins to unfold even before the bottle is opened – each cork is sealed with natural beeswax.
Quality and Recognition Across Europe
Šušvė Mead is crafted according to the highest quality standards, from ethical beekeeping practices to the final drop in every bottle. These efforts have not gone unnoticed: at Europe’s largest mead competition, the Mead Madness Cup, the producer was awarded three medals – two gold and one bronze, celebrating both classic and experimental mead styles.
An Authentic Lithuanian Story in Every Bottle
Šušvė Mead brings together family heritage, local spirit, and masterful taste. It’s more than just a drink – it’s a story of dedication, nature’s rhythm, and a passion for creating something truly unique. Each bottle serves as an ambassador of Lithuanian flavor and beekeeping culture, crafted for those who value authenticity and uncompromising quality.
