Description

Gaja Langhe Bianco Alteni di Brassica 2024 is a dry white wine from Piedmont, Italy, crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes. It combines the aromatic character and freshness typical of the variety with the richness imparted by oak aging.

The aroma reveals notes of pear, caramelized orange, almonds, and almond blossoms, complemented by hints of tomato leaf and sage. On the palate, the wine is rich and enveloping with a gently oily texture, yet it retains a sense of freshness and balance. A distinct minerality emerges on the long finish.

The grapes are sourced from vineyards in the areas of Barbaresco, Serralunga d’Alba, and Trezzo Tinella. The wine undergoes fermentation and is aged in oak barrels for 12–18 months.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 10–12 °C. Recommended pairings: fried fish, scallops, lobster, poultry in a creamy sauce, or herb risotto.

Wine Advocate

The Gaja 2024 Langhe Alteni di Brassica knocks it out of the park with its extraordinary precision, clarity and freshness. The bouquet is beautifully lifted with vibrant citrus, preserved lemon and grapefruit framed by subtle creaminess that adds texture without diminishing the wine's energy. The palate is razor-sharp and remarkably vibrant, finishing with lingering citrus and mineral notes. Beginning with the 2024 vintage, approximately 60% of the blend comes from eight-year-old vineyards in Alta Langa, bringing an extra dimension of freshness and finesse. As the estate's growing portfolio continues to evolve, the Gaja family continues to evaluate which cool Alta Langa sites are best suited to existing blends and which might ultimately justify new wines.

About brand

The Gaja family settled in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy in the mid-17th century. They have been producing wine in the Barbaresco area since 1859. Four generations of dedicated work and a noble pursuit of making top-quality wines have made the Gaja name synonymous with Italian winemaking excellence worldwide. Today, the fifth generation – Gaia, Giovanni, and Rossana Gaja – continues the family traditions, leading this legendary winery.

Currently, Gaja in Piedmont produces both classic expressions of the ‘Nebbiolo’ grape – Barbarescos and Barolos – and innovative “Langhe DOC” red and white wines from international grape varieties. The family also owns two estates in Tuscany: “Ca’Marcanda” in Bolgheri, famous for its “Super Tuscan” wines, and “Pieve S. Restituta” in the Montalcino area, producing “Brunello di Montalcino” wines. Additionally, a joint project with Alberto Graci in Sicily, at the foot of Mount Etna, testifies to the family’s constant pursuit of innovation and quality.

The Gaja family firmly believes that the true spirit and quality of wine are born in the vineyards themselves. Therefore, the greatest attention is paid to vineyard care: searching for climate change-resistant clones, limiting yields, growing other crops between vineyard rows to enrich the soil and help retain moisture and protect the harvest from heat. The highest quality standards are applied to all farms: grapes are grown only in family-owned vineyards, adhering to ecological and sustainability principles, with particular attention to soil quality and biodiversity.

Wine Style

Gaja wines are characterized by elegance, complexity, and perfectly reflect the terroir of their origin regions.

  • White wines: bright, mineral, full-bodied, with pure aromas and a subtle touch of oak.
  • Red wines: aromatic, with smooth tannins, juicy, with dominant red berry notes.

  • “Pieve S. Restituta” (Montalcino): producing top-quality “Brunello di Montalcino” wines.
  • Etna (Sicily): a joint project with Alberto Graci, revealing the uniqueness of the Etna terroir.
