H.Bourgeois Sancerre Jadis 2023

71,00

Description

This ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ reflects the deep-rooted traditions of the Sancerre region. One of Henri Bourgeois’ most prestigious wines, it is crafted exclusively from old vines grown on the region’s finest limestone and flint (silex) slopes, which lend the wine remarkable structure, minerality, and longevity.

The aroma is refined, rich, and complex, revealing notes of ripe citrus, white peach, gooseberry, and fresh herbs, complemented by subtle smoky, mineral, and wet stone undertones. It is a fragrance where fruit purity meets the stony freshness of Sancerre’s terroir – the unmistakable signature of “Jadis.”

On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet elegant – dry, with bright acidity and a delicate creamy texture. The flavors balance citrus energy, gentle tropical fruit, and a chalky, saline minerality that lingers long on the finish.

The grapes come from three of Sancerre’s most celebrated terroirs – Chavignol, Verdigny, and Saint-Satur – featuring limestone (caillottes), marl (terres blanches), and flint (silex) soils. This diversity gives the wine both elegance and power, making “Jadis” one of the most precise and expressive wines in the Bourgeois collection.

Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, followed by 10–12 months of aging on fine lees, enhancing structure, subtle spiciness, and longevity. While delightful when young, this wine develops even greater complexity and depth over 5–8 years of aging.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 10–12 °C with Crottin de Chavignol goat cheese, mussels baked with garlic, or white fish with lemon butter sauce.

About brand

Situated in the village of Chavignol Domaine Henri Bourgeois is one of the larger private Sancerre domaines and have vineyards on some the the best sites in the appellation. The domaine is run today by the 10th generation of the family in the shape of General Manager - Arnaud Bourgeois, Viticulturist - Lionel Bourgeois and Winemaker - Jean-Christophe Bourgeois. They make several cuvées and are keen to emphasise the different characteristics of the various vineyards used even though the grape variety remains the same. Possibly to emphasise their passion for Sauvignon Blanc they also establised the well regarded Clos Henri Vineyard in that grape's more recent heartland, Marlborough in New Zealand.
