Red dry
A modern interpretation of the ancient Greek ‘Xinomavro’ grape that retains its distinctive character. The wine is made from carefully selected grapes grown in the Naoussa PDO appellation in northern Greece. The region is renowned for its structured red wines, marked acidity and ageing potential, while ‘Xinomavro’ expresses a distinctive combination of red fruit, floral and spicy aromas.
The nose reveals sour cherry and plum, complemented by notes of spices and chocolate. The palate is intense and concentrated, yet retains its vitality: bright acidity brings freshness, while firm, mature tannins provide structure. The richness of the fruit is complemented by subtle ageing nuances, and the long finish reveals the variety’s characteristic complexity. This is a distinctive, elegant wine that balances concentration, freshness and ageing potential.
The grapes are hand-harvested, and fruit from each vineyard plot is fermented separately to preserve its individual character. The wine is aged for 14 months in 225- and 500-litre French oak barrels, using first-, second- and third-use barrels.
Serve at a temperature of 16–18 °C with grilled lamb, beef stew with herbs, or aged hard cheese.
The history of Kir-Yianni Winery dates back to 1997, when one of the most influential personalities in the Greek wine world, Yiannis Boutaris, separated from his famous grandfather, the Boutari Wine Group, founded in 1879. Currently, his charismatic son, Stellios Boutaris, who is a fifth-generation winemaker, runs the Kir-Yianni winery, whose vineyards are located on the slopes of Mount Vermio, 300-700 meters above sea level. The two main vineyards on the farm, dominated by the local Xinomavro grape, are in the appeals of the Greek region of Amyndeon and Naoussa.
