A Premier Cru wine from the renowned Michel Gros, Aux Brûlées is considered one of the most coveted vineyard plots in the entire appellation, bordering the legendary Richebourg Grand Cru. This wine embodies the classic Côte de Nuits style – intense yet graceful, full of depth, spice, and silky texture.
In the glass, it reveals aromas of black cherries, blackberries, plums, and violet petals, complemented by hints of tobacco, cocoa, nutmeg, burnt sugar, and a subtle mineral smokiness. The bouquet is rich yet refined – the name Aux Brûlées (“burnt earth”) symbolically reflects both the character of the soil and the delicately roasted, spicy nuances found in the wine.
On the palate, it is concentrated yet supple, with silky tannins and precise acidity. Layers of ripe dark fruit, vanilla, toffee caramel, and delicate oak dominate. Gradually, notes of earth, truffle, cedar, and mineral spice unfold. The texture is firm yet elegant, and the finish is long, warm, and complex, with lingering tones of spice and cherry.
The Aux Brûlées vineyard lies just above Richebourg Grand Cru, on south to southwest-facing slopes covered with clay and limestone soils interspersed with sand. This composition lends the wine both density and depth, as well as refreshing minerality. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermentation occurs with native yeasts, and the wine is aged for about 18 months in French oak barrels, of which 30–40% are new.
