Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano 2020 is one of the most famous and highly regarded wines of the Produttori del Barbaresco Riserva series, originating from the legendary Montestefano cru. This vineyard is often considered one of the most magnificent in the entire Barbaresco appellation, and its wines are renowned for their exceptional concentration, structure and longevity. Due to the southwest exposure and calcareous clay soils, the ‘Nebbiolo’ grapes grown here create powerful yet elegant wines that are often compared to the best Barolo.
The aroma reveals notes of ripe cherries, black plums, dried rose petals and violet flowers. They are complemented by nuances of licorice, tobacco, black spices, menthol, cedar and forest floor. In the glass, the wine constantly changes, revealing new layers and exceptional aromatic depth.
The wine is concentrated, powerful and extremely complex, with firm, ripe tannins and lively acidity that give the wine energy and longevity. The aftertaste reveals notes of cherry stones, tobacco, spices, dried herbs and minerality that remain for a very long time.
After fermentation, the wine is aged for 36 months in large oak barrels, and then additionally aged in the bottle.
Serve at 16-18 °C. Food pairing: braised beef, venison, wild boar ragù, veal osso buco, aged lamb, truffle-flavored pasta, aged hard cheeses.
Produttori del Barbaresco, founded in 1958, now has 51 members and controls more than 100 hectares of premium Nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco. Each family is in full control of its land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with centuries old skill and dedication. The vinery produces a Barbaresco DOCG, a blend of Nebbiolo grapes harvested from different vineyards, and a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe suited for earlier consumption. In great vintages, nine single-vineyard Barbarescos are produced from nine classic premium sites within the Barbaresco village boundaries: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota, and Rio Sordo. These are the geographical names of sites where Nebbiolo grapes have always been cultivated. The name of the single-vineyards, the total number of bottles produced, and the name of the owners of the vineyards are marked on the labels. Produttori del Barbaresco, which vinifies only Nebbiolo grapes, produce around 550 000 bottles per year. In a good vintage they are divided among Barbaresco (50%), single vineyard Barbarescos (30%) and Nebbiolo Langhe (20%).
