Markellos: Four Generations of Olive Oil Heritage
The story of Markellos began in 1932, when great-grandfather Dimitris Markellos planted the first olive trees and started producing olive oil. Since then, the olive tree has become not only a symbol of Greece but also of the Markellos family itself.
In 2014, the fourth generation – four cousins Nikos, Christos, Michalis, and Nikos – took over the family business. That same year, the company underwent a major transformation: the olive oil mill was modernized, and a new milestone was reached with the launch of Soligea, the first branded Markellos olive oil.
Blending Tradition with Innovation
What makes Markellos unique is its ability to combine generations of accumulated knowledge with modern technology. The acquisition of new olive groves and investments in advanced production equipment enable the creation of top-quality Greek extra virgin olive oil. Today, their vision is to promote the value of Greek olive oil on a global scale while staying true to their roots and respecting tradition.
Responsibility to the Community and Nature
Markellos embraces a strong sense of responsibility toward the local community and the environment. The company actively supports cultural and athletic initiatives, creates jobs for locals, and contributes to regional development. It is also committed to reducing its environmental impact – all products are recyclable or suitable for reuse.
The philosophy of the Markellos family is not only to respect nature but also to act in ways that protect it. This principle is a fundamental part of the company’s identity.
