Description

Uncover the enduring legacy of Saint-Émilion with Château La Gaffelière, a Premier Grand Cru Classé embodying centuries of winemaking excellence. Located in the prestigious "golden triangle" between the famed Châteaux Pavie and Ausone, and meticulously managed by the Malet Roquefort family for over 300 years, this wine offers a taste of unparalleled heritage and supreme quality.

Château La Gaffelière reveals a complex nose that gradually blends delicate fragrances of peony, iris, wild blackberries, liquorice, and wild strawberries with subtle roasted aromas from the initial aging period. Balanced and long, the palate seduces with its elegantly fresh, smooth, and refined tannins, showcasing an exquisite structure.

Château La Gaffelière's vineyard spans 38 hectares, with 22 of those being Premier Grand Cru Classé. The vines thrive across three distinct soil types, contributing to the wine's depth and intricacy: the famous Saint-Émilion asteriated limestone, the clayey Molasse outcrops of the Fronsadais, and deep, carbonate-rich sands. The vineyard is managed in a sustainable manner.

The wine is carefully aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

About brand

Château La Gaffelière is a prestigious Bordeaux wine estate in the Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) classification, renowned for its elegant, structured wines that clearly express the character of the local terroir. The estate is one of the highly regarded members of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru community.

The name La Gaffelière is linked to sanctuaries and ancient history. This reflects the estate’s deep respect for tradition, landscape, and local culture. The location of the winery, its slopes, and its soils create ideal conditions for the grapes to ripen slowly, preserving structure, aromatic richness, and balanced acidity.

The estate manages around 41 hectares of vineyards, spread across various hillsides of Saint-Émilion. The diversity of soils, ranging from limestone-rich clay layers to finer soil components, gives the wines a deep aromatic spectrum, textural contrast, and a strong expression of terroir. Such conditions are particularly favorable for classic Bordeaux grape varieties.

The main grape varieties grown in the vineyards of Château La Gaffelière are ‘Merlot’, ‘Cabernet Franc’, and ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’. Blends of these varieties create wines that combine elegance and structure, ranging from soft, fruit-driven styles to complex wines with significant ageing potential.

At the estate, the harvest is carried out by hand, and each parcel is assessed individually to ensure that grapes are picked at their optimal moment of ripeness. In the winemaking process, traditional fermentation methods are combined with modern technological control, allowing maximum preservation of fruit purity and structural balance.

After fermentation, the wines are aged in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new. The duration of ageing and attention to detail provide the wines with complexity, softness, and strong ageing potential. La Gaffelière wines display clear structure, a refined aromatic profile, balanced fruit expression, and elegance that reveals itself both in youth and after extended maturation.

Wines from this estate pair beautifully with red meats, cheeses, and more complex gastronomic dishes, and they also represent excellent investment value for long-term cellaring.
