Description

The wine offers floral notes, a tasty, juicy touch of red and black berries and slightly spicy, toasty notes. The ageing potential of this vintage will also suit connoisseurs who have the patience to wait for the Grands Crus de Bordeaux to develop more evolved aromas of truffle, undergrowth, game, leather and light tobacco.

About brand

Château La Lagune is one of the oldest and most historic wine estates in Bordeaux, located in the Haut-Médoc appellation in the western part of the Bordeaux wine region.

The history of the estate dates back to 1587, when the ancient village of “La Lagune” was transformed into a wine estate due to the presence of natural water sources and favorable growing conditions. Over the centuries, both the property and its ownership evolved, while the vineyards continued to develop and expand. In the 18th century, a beautiful château was built, and in 1855 La Lagune was classified as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé in the official Bordeaux classification.

During the 20th century, the estate went through challenging periods, but it was revived in 1958 when Georges Brunet restored the vineyards and winery. Since 2000, the estate has been managed by the Frey family, whose members—particularly Caroline Frey—have strengthened the quality of the wines, modernized production processes, and preserved the historic reputation of the property.

The vineyards cover approximately 80 to 110 hectares, and the soils consist mainly of sand, gravel, and subsoil layers—typical of the Haut-Médoc terroir. The vineyards are planted with classic Bordeaux varieties: ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’, and ‘Petit Verdot’.

Château La Lagune wines are highly regarded for their elegance, balance, and refined structure, combining the intensity of dark berry fruit, smooth tannins, and a subtle mineral layer. They beautifully express the character of the Haut-Médoc terroir—rich, complex, and harmonious wines that can be enjoyed both in their youth and after extended aging.

Château La Lagune follows traditional winemaking techniques, including hand harvesting, separate fermentation by parcel and grape variety, and aging in French oak barrels.
