About brand

Château Poitevin

"Château Poitevin" is one of the brightest examples of the modern Bordeaux Médoc appellation, rightfully boasting the esteemed "Cru Bourgeois Supérieur" status. Nestled in the northern part of the Médoc peninsula, this family estate is experiencing a true renaissance today. By combining long-standing family traditions with state-of-the-art winemaking technologies and a strict organic philosophy, Guillaume and Natacha Poitevin craft authentic, deep, and elegant wines. It is an impeccable choice for those seeking classic Bordeaux structure, refined fruitiness, and an exceptionally attractive price-to-quality ratio.

Three Generations and the Path to Mastery

The estate's history began in the 1950s when René Poitevin purchased his first hectares of vineyards. Although initially, the family grew grapes and delivered the harvest to local cooperatives, the real turning point occurred in 1991. Third-generation representative and certified oenologist Guillaume Poitevin took the helm and decided to craft the wine himself. Having invested in a modern cellar and advanced technologies, Guillaume quickly caught the attention of wine critics. His meticulous work soon bore fruit—the estate earned the "Cru Bourgeois" classification, later won the prestigious "Coupe des Crus Bourgeois," and finally, in recognition of its exceptional and consistent quality, was elevated to the "Cru Bourgeois Supérieur" level.

Gravel Terroir and Organic Philosophy

Today, the vineyards of "Château Poitevin" stretch across 41 hectares, dominated by the classic Médoc gravel soil enriched with intercalations of sand and clay. Traditional Bordeaux varieties are cultivated here: ‘Merlot’, providing richness and roundness; ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, forming a firm structure; and ‘Petit Verdot’, adding spicy, aromatic notes.

The estate is distinguished by a profound respect for nature. Following years of sustainable farming practices (Terra Vitis and Haute Valeur Environnementale), as of 2023, the entire "Château Poitevin" estate is officially certified organic (Agriculture Biologique).

Wine Style: Modern Classic

The "Château Poitevin" style represents a masterful balance between classic Bordeaux firmness and modern, juicy, gourmet fruitiness.

  • Winemaking Specifics: The wines are vinified separately by vineyard parcels to maximally reveal the authentic characteristics of the terroir. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, followed by 14 months of aging in French oak barrels (of which about 30% are entirely new each year).

  • Aromas and Palate: The estate's red wines reveal complex aromas of ripe dark berries, cherries, and strawberries, intertwined with subtle hints of tobacco and vanilla. On the palate, they boast a silky, creamy texture, perfectly polished tannins, and a long, elegant finish.

These are highly versatile wines that offer immense pleasure when tasted young, yet possess a solid 10–15 year aging potential. In addition to their flagship red wine, these innovation-driven producers also craft exceptional white wines and boldly experiment by aging a portion of their harvest in amphorae.
