Allow us to present Corvina—the undisputed star of Italy's Veneto region and the most important component of the famous Valpolicella wine family. This elegant red wine enchants with its expressive fruitiness, dominated by fresh red cherries, violet blossoms, and a classic Italian bitter almond finish. Due to its naturally high acidity and soft tannins, Corvina is an incredibly versatile choice. It can be enjoyed as a light and refreshing everyday drink or transform into a masterpiece of astonishing depth and concentration when the grapes are dried to produce the legendary Amarone wine.

The character of Corvina is closely tied to the climate and winemaking traditions of Northern Italy. This grape expresses itself best in its historic growing sites:
Valpolicella: The limestone and volcanic soils here provide the wine with elegance and minerality. It is this specific place of origin that dictates Corvina's dominance, forming the backbone of local blends.
Thanks to its unique thick skin, Corvina is perfectly suited for the appassimento (grape drying) method. As the berries dry in special lofts, water evaporates, concentrating the sugars and aromas, thereby creating the powerful Amarone and rich Ripasso wines.
Because Corvina can be crafted in vastly different styles, its food pairing possibilities are wide open.
Young, light Valpolicella or 100% Corvina wines pair ideally with pizza, tomato-based pasta dishes, grilled poultry, and light meat appetizers.
Meanwhile, powerful Ripasso or Amarone wines demand more serious partners: they perfectly complement aged hard cheeses, slow-braised beef, game dishes, and gourmet meat stews with wild mushrooms.
Partially, yes. Valpolicella is a wine region and appellation whose wines are blends. Corvina is the most important and valuable grape in this blend (usually making up 45–95% of the wine), providing it with structure, aromas, and quality.
Although historically it has always been blended with other varieties (such as Rondinella or Corvinone), today modern winemakers are increasingly producing 100% varietal Corvina wines (often labeled as IGT Veneto). These allow you to experience the unveiled, pure cherry character of this grape.
The gentle, barely perceptible bitter almond finish is a classic hallmark of Northern Italian red (and white) wines. It adds extra complexity to the wine and perfectly cleanses the palate after richer foods, leaving a long-lasting sensation of freshness.
