White dry
Domaine Denis Meunier Vouvray Expression de Silex 2024 - an example of the classic dry Vouvray style, revealing how the ‘Chenin Blanc’ variety can convey the minerality, freshness and subtle texture of the Loire Valley. The name “Expression de Silex” refers to the flint (silex) soils, which give this wine tension, precision and a slightly smoky mineral character. This is an elegant, clean-styled white wine, which combines fruitiness, lively acidity and terroir expression.
The aromas reveal notes of pear, yellow apple, citrus peel and white flowers, complemented by subtle nuances of honey, wet stone and flint.
The wine is lively and harmonious. Bright acidity provides energy and a long aftertaste, while the fruity character is complemented by mineral tension and a light citrus bitterness. Maturation with yeast sediments provides a softer texture and additional complexity.
The wine is produced in the Vouvray AOC appellation, located east of Tours in the Loire Valley. The calcareous tuff and flint soils of this region are ideal for the Chenin Blanc variety, which retains high acidity and is able to convey a very clear terroir character. The 2024 harvest was characterized by a slower ripening, which allowed it to preserve freshness and aromatic precision.
The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to maintain fruitiness and a clean aromatic profile. After fermentation, the wine is aged on its lees for about six months, with a bâtonnage process if necessary, which gives it more texture and roundness.
Serve at 10-12 °C with shellfish, fish dishes, goat cheese, shrimp tempura.
Domaine Denis Meunier is a family-run winery in the Vouvray appellation, located around Vernou-sur-Brenne and Chançay, in the very heart of the Loire Valley. The estate has nearly a century of history behind it — the winery was founded back in 1927, and today it is led by third-generation winemaker Denis Meunier.
The winery specialises exclusively in the Chenin Blanc grape and in classic Vouvray-style wines — ranging from dry ("sec") to off-dry, sweet, and sparkling. Domaine Denis Meunier's philosophy is built on respect for terroir, natural acidity balance, and an exceptionally clean wine style. Denis Meunier himself devotes great attention to traditional winemaking and to capturing the most precise expression of the soil in the glass.
The vineyards lie on clay, limestone, and flint (silex) soils characteristic of the Vouvray region. It is precisely these soils that give the wines their minerality, freshness, and subtle smoky notes. Some of the vines are very old — several are more than 60 years of age — so the wines display concentration and structure while retaining an elegant Loire balance.
The winery favours a minimalist approach to winemaking — fermentation usually takes place in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the fruitiness, acidity, and terroir character of Chenin Blanc. Many of the wines are aged on the lees, while the sparkling Vouvray is made by the traditional method, with the wine kept in contact with the lees in the bottle for a long period.
Domaine Denis Meunier's wines are valued for their classic Vouvray expression — vibrant acidity, aromas of apple, pear, and citrus, and expressive minerality. It is a style oriented more towards terroir precision and longevity than towards excessive ripeness or oak dominance.
