Chateau Cheval Blanc Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classe A 2014

780,00

Description

One of the most remarkable estates in Saint-Émilion, holding the highest possible classification — 1er Grand Cru Classé A. The 2014 vintage brought exceptionally precise aromatic expression, noble structure, and crystalline elegance — one of the most distinctive Cheval Blanc styles of the decade.

The aroma opens with layers of blackcurrants, plums, cherries, and black raspberries. These are enriched by nuances of cedarwood, delicate tobacco, and graphite minerality. After a few minutes in the glass, balsamic tones, a hint of cocoa bitterness, and subtle herbal notes emerge — reminiscent of the warmth of old library wood and the quiet serenity of the Saint-Émilion slopes.

On the palate, the wine glides like dark velvet. The texture is dense but never heavy; the tannins are silky, polished, never intrusive. The acidity is precise and harmonious, keeping the wine linear and vibrant. Flavours of dark fruit, gentle spices, and light hints of smoke and graphite blend into an aristocratic, composed profile. The finish is long, pure, and elegant.

Cheval Blanc’s character is shaped by an extraordinarily rare Saint-Émilion terroir. Clay contributes depth and density; sand lends aromatic clarity and shimmering elegance; gravel brings structural tension and mineral precision. This unique combination allows ‘Cabernet Franc’ to achieve a refinement found almost nowhere else in Bordeaux.

The harvest is picked by hand, and fermentation takes place in small vats, with meticulously controlled extraction to preserve purity of fruit and delicate structure. The wine is aged for around 18 months in French oak barrels, part of which are new, giving Cheval Blanc its unmistakable touch of quiet, understated luxury.

Serving recommendations

Serve at around 16–18 °C. Pairs well with duck with cherries, roast lamb loin, and a selection of mature hard cheeses.

About brand

Château Cheval Blanc is first and foremost an exceptionally rich terroir featuring a patchwork of different soils. From its position between Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, in the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards, the estate has established its identity through the gravel and clay soils which are closely interwoven over the 45 parcels that make up the estate. Cabernet Franc and Merlot, two grape varieties that complement each other perfectly, grow in harmony throughout the 39 hectares of vineyard. The House’s savoir-faire, its ability to garner the terroir’s full potential, and its bold choices of grape varieties give Cheval Blanc wine all its freshness, elegance, power and finesse. They provide a unique character and a rare potential for aging: Cheval Blanc wines are excellent at any stage, but improve year after year. This cellaring potential and timeless style, which is recreated every year according to the assets of each vintage, have ensured the the supreme distinction of the 1er Grand Cru Classé A classification since 1954.
