Chateau de Saint Cosme Condrieu 2023

White dry

Chateau de Saint Cosme Condrieu 2023

78,00

Description

"Saint Cosme Condrieu 2023" is a classic Condrieu appellation wine from the Rhône Valley, France. This white wine is made from 100% Viognier grapes. The winery is managed by Louis Barruol, whose family has owned the estate since 1490.

The aroma unfolds with bright notes of dried apricots, peaches, and orange blossoms. These are subtly complemented by hints of fennel, anise, and elderflower. Aged in neutral barrels, this Viognier stands out with a rich texture and medium acidity.

The grapes are grown in vineyards situated at an elevation of 660 feet, featuring an eastern exposure and soils composed of granite and sand. The harvest usually takes place in mid-September. This is an extremely limited production wine. Only 4,000 bottles are produced.

The wine is aged for 8 months in used 228-liter oak barrels. Afterwards, it undergoes full malolactic fermentation, and aging on the fine lees lasts for 12 months.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 11-13 °C with dishes that feature creamy sauces, mild white fish, and roasted pork or chicken.

Wine Spectator

Starts off plump and round, with star fruit, pink grapefruit and fennel, and then quickly takes on a restrained, racy edge, with celery seed and blanched almond cruising alongside smoky, salty flintiness. Offers great tension and freshness, with the silky palate still tightly wound. There are touches of acacia and white flowers on the finish. Drink now through 2030.

About brand

Château de Saint Cosme – the historic heart of the Rhône Valley

Château de Saint Cosme is one of the oldest and most respected wineries in the southern Rhône Valley, located in the Gigondas appellation. The estate’s history dates back to the 16th century, and today it is run by Louis Barruol, representing the 14th generation of the family dedicated to preserving and developing this exceptional domaine.

The winery is renowned for its organic and biodynamic viticulture and for its highly precise work in the cellar. The vineyards grow on limestone, clay, and sandy soils, which give the wines structure, mineral tension, and remarkable ageing potential.

The estate’s flagship grape variety is ‘Grenache’, alongside ‘Syrah’, ‘Mourvèdre’, and ‘Cinsault’. Grapes are harvested by hand, fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, and ageing often takes place in old oak barrels or concrete vats to preserve the purity of the terroir and the authenticity of the wine.

Château de Saint Cosme wines are known for:

  • expressive yet balanced fruit character

  • elegant structure

  • pronounced minerality

  • excellent ageing potential

The estate is widely regarded as a benchmark of Gigondas, respected both in France and internationally as one of the most authentic expressions of the Southern Rhône.
