Red dry
Planted to 90% old-vine merlot and 10% cabernet franc on 6 hectares of vineyards spread out over the three terroirs of St. Emilion: clay, limestone, and sand. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats after extreme cold maceration. The wines undergo malolactic fermentation in new French oak.It also represents our wine with the largest amount of Merlot – as Andrew Jefford stated – “Maltus’s Merlot babe”!The bouquet is very complete and intriguing with oak notes framing intense black cherries, plums, dark chocolate. Broadly textured, there are plenty of black fruit flavors to occupy the palate that are supported by poised and balanced tannins. This is more structured than fruity on the palate with great intensity.Drink between: 2016 – 2026.
Serve at 16-18 °C with red meat or wild poultry dishes.
Aromas and flavors of shaved dark chocolate with black cherry undertones. Full to medium body. Bright finish. Drink now
Already balanced, this is a rich wine, packed with jammy fruit and tannins. The concentration contrasts with the intense, fresh acidity. Good depth of flavor comes with a dense texture and a final shot of pure acidity. Drink from 2017
A strong effort in 2013, this blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc possesses a dark ruby/purple-tinged color, lead pencil shaving, black raspberry, black currant and licorice notes, medium body, fine tannin and decent acidity. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years.
Château Laforge is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Bordeaux wine estate, renowned for producing elegant and well-balanced wines from the right bank of the Gironde. These wines faithfully express the character of the local terroir and reflect the classic style of Bordeaux winemaking.
The vineyards are primarily planted with ‘Merlot’ and ‘Cabernet Franc’ grape varieties. Approximately 92% ‘Merlot’ and 8% ‘Cabernet Franc’ are cultivated, a combination that gives the wines a rich profile of red and dark fruits, refined structure, and harmonious balance.
The name “Château Laforge” originates from the profession of a former owner – blacksmithing (French: la forge), who established the first vineyard plots in the 19th century, later consolidated into a single estate. Since 1998, the property has been owned by English winemaker Jonathan Maltus, also known for other notable Bordeaux projects such as “Château Teyssier” and “Le Dôme.” Under his leadership, production processes were modernized and quality control significantly enhanced, allowing Château Laforge to become an even more distinguished name in Saint-Émilion.
Winemaking at Château Laforge follows a meticulous and precise approach: grapes are harvested by hand, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats, and malolactic fermentation is carried out in French oak barrels. Around 80% of the wine is aged in new French oak.
