Fruit and berry semi sweet
Ilzenbergo dvaro vyšnių vynas - is a port-style red cherry wine from Lithuania, made from berries grown in the vicinity of Ilzenberg Manor. It is a richer, dessert-like fruit wine, combining the character of cherries with riper, darker aromatic notes.
The aroma is not only characterized by ripe cherries, but also hints of chocolate, cocoa, vanilla and light smoke.
The wine is rich, sweet and sour and has a stronger body. The fruitiness of the cherries here maintains a clear support of acidity, so the sweetness does not seem flat.
Serve at 14–16 °C with chocolate desserts, cheeses, or as a dessert on its own.
Ilzenberg Manor is a unique fusion of history, nature, and modern sustainable agriculture, located in the Rokiškis region, in the historic lands of the Selonians, between the scenic Ilgis and Apvalasas lakes. The manor stands on a hill offering impressive panoramic views, and its history dates back to 1515, when it was founded by Baron Berndt von Kersenbrock.
A Living Manor – A Living Tradition
After more than 500 years, Ilzenberg Manor has returned to its roots and today stands as the only manor in the Baltic States operating according to natural farming principles. It is not a museum, but a living estate where livestock is raised, gardens are cultivated, and food products are produced with deep respect for nature and sustainability.
One of the Northernmost Vineyards in Europe
Ilzenberg Manor is also remarkable for reviving historic winemaking traditions that date back to the Livonian era. In 2019, a 0.8-hectare vineyard was established on the estate, where approximately 1,200 vines are grown. This makes it one of the northernmost open-air vineyards in Europe.
The vineyard is planted with the following grape varieties:
These grape varieties were developed by American breeders through crossbreeding European and native vines, making them exceptionally well adapted to the Lithuanian climate. They can withstand temperatures as low as –35°C and are highly resistant to diseases, particularly powdery mildew. This allows Ilzenberg Manor to practice organic, chemical-free viticulture, fully aligned with its philosophy of sustainability and respect for nature.
