One of the most renowned Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru wines, remarkable for the fact that the entire Clos des Réas vineyard has belonged to the Michel Gros family since the 19th century – the only monopole estate in the appellation, embodying a perfect harmony between the winemaker and his terroir.
In the glass, it reveals notes of ripe cherries, raspberries, blackcurrants, and rose petals, complemented by hints of vanilla, nutmeg, cedar, and a subtle earthy touch. The bouquet is elegant, deep, and inviting, maintaining a refined balance between fruit and spice.
On the palate, it is smooth, refined, yet rich, with layers of ripe fruit, cherry liqueur, vanilla, and delicate oak. The silky-soft tannins and precise acidity provide structure and poise. As it opens, nuances of forest floor, spice, tobacco, and truffle emerge. The finish is long, harmonious, with graceful warmth and a hint of freshness.
The vineyard lies just a few hundred meters from such iconic sites as Richebourg and La Tâche. The soil – a mix of clay and limestone with a fine layer of stones – gives the wine both firm structure and subtle minerality. Fermentation is carried out with natural yeasts, followed by about 18 months of aging in French oak barrels, around 30% of which are new.
This wine is the epitome of Vosne-Romanée classicism – subtle, nobly elegant, combining both power and finesse. Clos des Réas expresses Michel Gros’ precise winemaking style and the essence of its terroir: concentrated yet graceful, with an aging potential of 15–20 years.
