Planeta Eruzione Rosso 1614 Nerello Mascalese Sicilia 2021 is a Sicilian red wine of volcanic origin, born in the Etna zone, in the Sciaranuova vineyard, in the Castiglione di Sicilia area. The wine is made from 100% ‘Nerello Mascalese’, and its name recalls the legendary eruption of Etna in 1614, which lasted ten years. Planeta creates this wine as an elegantly structured, aromatic and clear example of a mountain red style, grown on black lava sands in the highlands.
In aroma, this wine opens in a very unique and refined way: notes of incense, medicinal herbs and hibiscus are felt, which are complemented by hints of red and autumn fruits, reminiscent of cherries and chestnuts. Details reminiscent of orange blossom honey also add depth to the layers of aroma, so the overall profile remains not heavy, but subtly complex and very ethnic in character.
The wine retains the characteristic lighter color and textural expression of Etna ‘Nerello Mascalese’, but at the same time has a solid internal structure. The tannins here are compact but elegantly drawn, and the nuances of wild fruits, currants, incense and beeswax create a long, subtly salty aftertaste. This is not a force-based red wine, but a red wine distinguished by precision, tension and volcanic character.
The identity of this wine is shaped by the extremely expressive Etna terroir. The vines grow at an altitude of 840-865 m above sea level, on soils of black lava sand, rich in minerals and larger volcanic fragments. The vineyard is surrounded by forests and newer lava flows, which gives the wine not only freshness, but also a very clear identity of mountain, volcanic origin. The grapes are grown according to the principles of organic farming and SOStain®.
The grapes were harvested between 1 and 16 October, cooled to 10°C, then hand-selected. After destemming, fermentation took place in concrete tanks and stainless steel tanks, with skin contact lasting 16–40 days, using only manual immersion. The wine was then aged in 25 hl and 36 hl oak barrels for 12 months, bottled in December 2023.
Acidity: 5.88 g/l.
Tiekti 16–18 °C prie žvėrienos, patiekalų su trumais, raudonos žuvies, sūrių, saliamio.
