Red dry
Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo 2020 is an elegant and expressive single vineyard riserva style wine from Produttori del Barbaresco, produced only in the best vintage years from the historic Rio Sordo cru. This vineyard, located in the southeastern part of the Barbaresco zone, is famous for its gentler terrain and calcareous clay soils, which give the ‘Nebbiolo’ grapes aromatic sophistication, silky texture and subtle minerality. The 2020 vintage stands out for its excellent balance between fruit ripeness, fresh acidity and precise structure.
The bouquet is dominated by ripe cherries, strawberries and pomegranates, accompanied by dried rose petals, violets, licorice and a soft note of anise. Over time, nuances of tobacco, forest floor, orange peel and crushed stone reveal themselves on the palate, giving depth and complexity to the aroma.
The wine has an elegant yet firm structure. Juicy red fruits combine with bright acidity and fine-grained tannins, which create a harmonious and long taste. There are notes of cherries, cranberries, blood oranges, spices and subtle mineral notes, and the aftertaste remains long, fresh and refined.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with long maceration, and then the wine is aged for more than 30 months in large traditional oak barrels.
Serve at 16–18 °C. Recommended pairings: slow-roasted veal, beef steaks, duck, tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms or truffles, risotto with mushrooms, as well as long-aged hard cheeses.
The Produttori del Barbaresco 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo comes from an area that is further removed from the Tanaro River and has southwestern exposures. It shows a typical profile for Nebbiolo with rich fruit, a velvety mouthfeel and textural volume that is delivered with ample blackberry, blackcurrant and spice. The character of this wine is generous and rich. There is plenty of meat on these bones.
Produttori del Barbaresco, founded in 1958, now has 51 members and controls more than 100 hectares of premium Nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco. Each family is in full control of its land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with centuries old skill and dedication. The vinery produces a Barbaresco DOCG, a blend of Nebbiolo grapes harvested from different vineyards, and a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe suited for earlier consumption. In great vintages, nine single-vineyard Barbarescos are produced from nine classic premium sites within the Barbaresco village boundaries: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota, and Rio Sordo. These are the geographical names of sites where Nebbiolo grapes have always been cultivated. The name of the single-vineyards, the total number of bottles produced, and the name of the owners of the vineyards are marked on the labels. Produttori del Barbaresco, which vinifies only Nebbiolo grapes, produce around 550 000 bottles per year. In a good vintage they are divided among Barbaresco (50%), single vineyard Barbarescos (30%) and Nebbiolo Langhe (20%).
