Red dry
Terre Nere Etna Rosso 2024 is a classic wine that reflects the character of Etna's northern slope and the uniqueness of the volcanic terroir. The wine uses grapes from several different plots in the highlands, so it conveys a wide spectrum of Etna's style, from fresh fruitiness to subtle minerality and elegant structure. The local 'Nerello Mascalese' variety dominates, complemented by a small amount of 'Nerello Cappuccio'.
The bouquet reveals notes of cherries, blackberries, raspberries and pomegranates, complemented by dried roses, mountain herbs, sweet spices and a light whiff of volcanic stones. When opened in the glass, the wine acquires orange peel, black tea and subtle nuances of smoke, which give it additional complexity.
The wine is medium-weight, characterized by lively acidity, soft, fine-grained tannins and an extremely pure expression of red fruits. The taste is elegant, precise and harmonious, and the mineral, spice and volcanic soil notes remain in the long aftertaste.
The wine comes from the Etna Rosso DOC, whose vineyards are located at an altitude of 600-900 meters on the slopes of Mount Etna. Black soils of volcanic origin, large differences in day and night temperatures and mountain climate give the wine freshness, elegance and an exceptional mineral character.
After fermentation, the wine is aged for about 11 months in large oak barrels.
Serve at 16-18 °C. Recommended pairings: duck, veal, roast pork, pasta with mushrooms, risotto, eggplant dishes, aged cheeses or grilled tuna.
Tenuta delle Terre Nere is a prestigious Sicilian estate located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, at 600–1,000 meters above sea level, near the town of Randazzo. Founded in 2002 by renowned Italian wine ambassador Marco de Grazia, it quickly became one of the most recognized wineries dedicated to expressing this unique terroir. The volcanic soils, rich in minerals, give the wines their distinctive character, while organic practices and meticulous handwork ensure authenticity and the highest quality.
Tenuta delle Terre Nere wines are celebrated for their elegance, finesse, and minerality, often described as Burgundy-style wines from Sicily.
Red wines – made primarily from ‘Nerello Mascalese’ with a small proportion of ‘Nerello Cappuccio’. They reveal expressive red fruit aromas, subtle notes of spice and herbs, silky tannins, and a mineral-driven, long-lasting finish. Often compared to ‘Pinot Noir’ for their structure and aromatic profile.
White wines – based on ‘Carricante’, stand out for their freshness, citrus and white flower notes, refined minerality, and precise acidity.
One of the estate’s greatest strengths is its “cru” philosophy. Tenuta delle Terre Nere was among the first in Etna to vinify single-vineyard wines. Each cru has a unique character and expression: Calderara Sottana, Feudo di Mezzo, Guardiola, San Lorenzo, Santo Spirito, among others. These sites showcase Etna’s extraordinary soil diversity and allow the creation of highly refined and complex wines.
Tenuta delle Terre Nere wines are matured with a delicate use of oak, enriching structure without overshadowing the terroir’s authenticity. Etna Rosso and Etna Bianco are best enjoyed young, when their fruit and freshness are most vibrant. The estate’s cru red wines, however, possess significant aging potential—over time they become increasingly complex, revealing the full depth and refinement of Etna’s terroir.
